[EE] in lieu, instead

1. lieu /ljuː, luː/
 từ này có 2 cách đọc (liu hoặc lu)
in lieu = instead (thay vì)

Khi dùng instead of thì có thể dùng in lieu of thay thế:
E.g:
the company issued additional shares to shareholders in lieu of a cash dividend

E.g2:
So in this usage, "How do you do?" wasn't an actual question about the person: it was just a meaningless greeting, and for instance what one might say when introduced to someone (in lieu of "Pleased to meet you"),
