What does it mean when you get laid off?

- Fired: If someone is fired, they are being let go for cause. 

- Laid off: If someone is laid off, they're being let go for reasons other than performance — the company was restructuring or having financial problems and eliminated the job.

[EE - Health] Zona, Shingles, fast day

1. Shingles  /ˈʃɪŋɡ(ə)lz/
(đọc gần giống như /ˈsɪŋɡ(ə)l/ (single) thêm z ở đuôi, chữ s ở đầu là chữ S dài và nặng)
hay còn gọi là bệnh herpes zoster.

Vie: bệnh zona thần kinh
Eng: A painful acute inflammation of the nerve ganglia, with a skin eruption often forming a girdle around the middle of the body. It is caused by the same virus as chickenpox. Also called herpes zoster.

Zona thần kinh hay Shingles là bệnh viêm (inflammation) hạch thần kinh (nerve ganglia), với biểu hiện mẩn ngứa đau rát trên da. Nó do virus thuỷ đậu (chickenpox), sau khi đã lành bệnh,  thì chuyển sang trạng thái "ngủ đông" trong các dây thần kinh cho tới một ngày bỗng dưng trỗi dậy và gây ra bệnh zona thần kinh. Nguyên nhân thường do stress hoặc hệ miễn dịch suy giảm vì lý do nào đó. Người chưa bị thuỷ đậu sẽ không bị Shingles.

Shingles không lây, nó chỉ có thể làm cho người chưa bị thuỷ đậu bao giờ bị thuỷ đậu.
Zona thần kinh KHÔNG PHẢI bệnh mà dân gian vẫn gọi là "giời leo".
Giời leo là một loài côn trùng trông giống con rết nhưng nhỏ bằng nửa đầu đũa và dài bằng ngón tay út người lớn. Khi nó tiếp xúc với da sẽ gây phỏng rộp thành vệt - và có thể bị 2 bên cơ thể.
Trong khi zona thường chỉ bị 1 bên do virus ăn theo dây thần kinh (các bác sỹ đều dựa vào điều này để phân biệt zona) - hãn hữu trường hợp bị zona mà nổi vết phỏng cả 2 bên (trái/phải) cơ thể.

Khi bị Shingles, người ta thường kết hợp bôi và uống Acid Clovir để diệt virus, 
uống nước cam để tăng sức đề kháng, tránh suy nghĩ nhiều gây stress - đôi khi bác sỹ còn dùng cả thuốc trống trầm cảm.
Khi bị giời leo thì người ta dùng clobetasol propionate để bôi.
Cả hai bệnh trên có thể dùng kết hợp các thuốc chống ngứa, chống viêm, tăng sức đề khác (như bổ gan).
